Professor Ertan Erel is a highly esteemed Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, currently practicing privately in the London region. His primary areas of expertise are rhinoplasty and body contouring procedures.
Prof. Erel served as a full-time NHS consultant at the University Hospitals of North Midlands until April 2023. Following this, he was appointed as Professor of Plastic Surgery at New Vision University in Georgia, an honorary position.
Prof. Erel earned his medical degree from Aegean University in Izmir, Turkey, and initially worked within the Turkish National Health Service. After relocating to the UK, he completed his junior surgical training in East Yorkshire. He also dedicated a year to full-time research in plastic surgery, earning a Master of Science degree from University College London.
He completed his plastic surgery training in the West Midlands region and was awarded the Intercollegiate Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Plastic Surgery (FRCS Plast). His advanced training includes fellowships in cosmetic surgery in Istanbul and microsurgery in Ghent, Izmir, and Cambridge.
Prof. Erel has a prolific research portfolio, having published 26 papers in peer-reviewed journals and delivered 50 presentations at national and international conferences. He contributed a chapter to the plastic surgery textbook “Breast Reconstruction: Art, Science, and New Clinical Technique” in 2016 and frequently writes plastic surgery articles for Turkish newspapers in the UK.
He is an active member of several professional organizations, including BAPRAS, the Turkish Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (TSAPS), and the Turkish Society of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. He also serves on the editorial board of the Turkish Plastic Surgery Journal.
During his tenure with the NHS, Prof. Erel specialized in breast reconstruction, particularly focusing on perforator free flap (DIEP flap) techniques in microsurgical breast reconstruction, complex septo-rhinoplasty in collaboration with ENT surgeons, and skin cancer treatment.
In his private practice, Prof. Erel’s expertise extends to all facets of aesthetic facial surgery (including rhinoplasty with piezosurgery), breast and body contouring. He performs a wide range of procedures, including breast augmentation and revision surgery, mastopexy, breast reduction, fat grafting (buttocks), abdominoplasty, brachioplasty, thigh reduction, liposuction, and body contouring following significant weight loss (extended abdominoplasty). He also specializes in septorhinoplasty, prominent ear correction, and various skin surgeries, in addition to non-operative procedures like Botox and fillers. Prof. Erel utilizes advanced techniques such as BodyTite, NeckTite, and Morpheus8 to complement liposuction and enhance skin rejuvenation and tightening.
