Liposuction is a minimally invasive procedure that removes localised fat deposits to refine the shape of the body. At LHCSC we offer traditional power-assisted, ultrasound-assisted and laser-assisted techniques, chosen to suit the area being treated.
What is liposuction?
Liposuction is a minimally invasive fat-removal procedure carried out through very small incisions. Fat is loosened and then suctioned away using fine cannulas, reshaping the treated area.
We use traditional power-assisted liposuction, ultrasound-assisted liposuction and laser-assisted liposuction, selecting the technique that suits the density of the fat and the area being contoured.
Are you eligible?
Liposuction is a contouring procedure — it is not a weight-loss method. The best results are achieved by patients who are already close to their target weight and who have good skin elasticity.
- A healthy adult in good general health
- BMI of approximately 20–24
- A stable weight for six months or more
- A non-smoker, or willing to stop before surgery
- Good skin elasticity in the treatment area
- Realistic expectations — this is not a weight-loss method
Benefits of liposuction
Beyond improved contour and proportion, patients consistently report a lift in self-esteem and confidence in clothing. Liposuction is also used to treat specific conditions such as Lipodystrophy, Gynecomastia and Lipomas.
Recovery
Compression garments are generally worn for four to six weeks, and full recovery — as swelling settles and the final contour emerges — takes three to six months.
